Catholic board names new executive

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board has its final executive in place before next October’s municipal and school board elections.   Back as chair is Barbara McCool, a veteran trustee who is now completing her 40th year in the board.   McCool was first elected in 1977 and has served as board chair since 2009.  In being named chair once again, McCool told her colleagues she’s proud and honoured to serve.  McCool says the Catholic board has several accomplishments over the past three years and trustees will continue their work to ensure the students maintain a high standard of success.  Meanwhile the vice-chair is another board veteran, Jacques Begin.  Begin was first elected as a trustee in 1997 and chaired the board for two years; 2008 and 2009.

Other board members who serve the immediate area are George Whittet, Shawn Fitzsimmons and Linda Jamieson who represent North Bay.  John Willemsen is the West Nipissing trustee while the Nipissing First Nation is represented by Judy Manitowabi.   The executive was named at the board’s regular meeting on Tuesday.  Earlier in the week the Near North District School Board also named its executive and returned Dave Thompson as its chair, a position he’s held since 2014 and acclaimed James Beatty as vice-chair.
