Don’t get lax with the vax

Secondary students who do not have their vaccination records in order will be suspended from school.

So says the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. The annual review of vaccination records for secondary students is underway. Students with incomplete records will have received a letter from the Health Unit in December. The letter requests that missing information be updated. Failure to do so will result in a school suspension.

Students have until Tuesday, March 20 at 4pm to provide up-to-date vaccination records to the Health Unit. If the missing information is provided by this date, the suspension will not be enforced. Failing that, students will be suspended from school as of Wednesday, March 21 until their vaccination information is up-to-date. The Health Unit removes students from the suspension list when the missing information is received.

If your son or daughter is missing vaccinations:

  • Call the Health Unit to make an appointment for the required vaccines.
  • Note that the Health Unit will be offering vaccine clinics to each secondary school in our district in February.
  • Complete the consent form and have your child bring it to the school on the day of the clinic if you wish for your son or daughter to receive their vaccine(s) at the school clinic.

You may wish to take your child to your doctor’s office to receive the required vaccine(s). In this case, please contact the Health Unit’s Vaccination Program to update your child’s records.

Even though your child’s vaccines may be up-to-date, Health Unit files may not be. For that reason, it is important to contact the Health Unit to ensure that they have the most current vaccination information.

For more information about vaccinations and the suspension process, visit the Immunization and Suspension page at www.myhealthunit.ca or call the Health Unit at 705-474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808 ext. 2252.
