Afghan all-girls robotics team to show its mettle at local competition

An all-girls robotics team from Afghanistan will take part in a competition in North Bay in March.

This is not the first time the team has been in the news. The same group gained attention after they had been initially denied entry into the U.S. after having their visas denied twice at the American Embassy in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul.

The girls eventually did gain entry and competed in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Global Challenge.

North Bay hosts a FIRST Robotics competition March 30-31 at Nipissing University.

The Afghan girls will join forces with a prestigious all-girls team from Oakville, Ont., for the competition in North Bay, as well as one in Toronto.
