E. coli risk deemed low but Health Unit recommends safe food handling

A Government of Canada public health notice concerning E. coli outbreaks linked to romaine lettuce has been updated to reflect a low risk to Canadians.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is recommending that the public continue to follow safe food handling tips for preparing lettuce or any other product intended for consumption. The local health unit acknowledges receiving the notice that the E. coli outbreak appears to be over but encourages the public to access information on food safety by clicking here.

The Public Health Agency of Canada update advises that it is no longer asking those in affected provinces to consider consuming other types of lettuce, in lieu of romaine lettuce.
