Maroosis motion to back Timmins in potential mining windfall

Councillor George Maroosis is poised to table a motion backing a Timmins bid for a ferrochrome production facility.

Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay are also in the running for the Noront plant that would process chromite ore from the Ring of Fire.

So, why is Maroosis backing Timmins?

The Timmins proposal would include extensive use of rail, which means the North Bay-based (ONTC) Ontario Northland Transportation Commission will be called upon to haul materials, both raw and finished.

The piggybacked economic and employment spinoff is sure to make the Maroosis motion much-discussed around the Council table Tuesday.

Bids are being accepted by Noront until February 2.
