Fedeli proposes $500 winter tire tax credit

The Progressive Conservatives want to make it worthwhile for people to buy winter tires and stay safe at the same time.   Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Tories want to introduce a $500 winter credit on your income taxes if they form the next government.   Fedeli says it’s a proven fact that winter tires are better at stopping in snow and ice.   He says figures show that winter tires can stop a vehicle 25 percent faster on snow or ice than vehicles without winter tires.   He says some people use winter tires but a large number of drivers, especially in the south, don’t bother with them.

Fedeli says in the six years that he’s been an MPP and spends most of his time in Toronto, he’s seen many vehicles being driven around without winter tires.  However the Tory MPP says we’ve seen more snow in recent years and winter tires should be used by everyone.  While he compliments the Liberal government for creating a mandatory insurance discount for people with winter tires, he says the Tory $500 tax credit creates that extra incentive.  Fedeli made the tax credit announcement in North Bay and says it’s the first of several he has planned as the province gears up for the June election.
