The Mattawa Fire Department isn’t sure if a transport trailer slamming into an apartment building damaged the structural integrity of the building. Fire Chief Chad Belanger says the department has suggested the owner contact a structural engineer. The transport hit one side of the building Monday evening with the tractor portion going inside the two-storey structure.
Belanger says his people had to cut away plastic and debris to free the driver who wasn’t hurt. A tenant in the multi-unit building received minor injuries. The driver is charged with careless driving.
