Mattawa tenants staying with family and at motels after apartment building hit by transport trailer

The Chief Building Officer in Mattawa can’t let residents of an apartment building back into their rooms until he’s assured it’s safe.   The building was hit by a tractor trailer Monday night with the tractor portion penetrating the interior.  Wayne Chaput says a structural engineer is preparing an analysis of the building.  Chaput says once he has the engineer’s report and it says everything is fine, then the tenants will be allowed back in.  In the meantime the residents are staying with family or motels.   Only five of the apartments in the 10-unit building were occupied.   Chaput says social service groups are ready to help tenants who need it during the time they’re displaced.
