Canadore College is making it easier for its out-of-town students to stay connected with their family physician back home. The students can now interface with their doctor, a specialist or nurse practitioner using the Ontario Telemedicine Network. Canadore says out-of-town students aren’t in the city long enough to find a permanent doctor and that’s where the telemedicine network helps. It adds with the network in place, students don’t have to wait unnecessarily until they’re back home to visit their doctor.
Under the OTN hub, the student can schedule an appointment outside their class time. One student the college identifies as Clay R. has used the platform and says he was impressed with the service. Clay said it was a relief to be able to access a specialist which saved him time and money since he didn’t have to wait to get back home to schedule a medical visit. The student adds scheduling his interface using the OTN hub was very easy.
Canadore is one of the few colleges in Ontario that provides this student service. The OTN hub is expected to be available in the near future. In addition to the OTN hub, Canadore provides access to a doctor and nurse at the on-campus health centre.
