The Timiskaming-Cochrane candidate for the Northern Ontario Party says Highway 11 is a death trap. Shawn Poirier says the solution is to expand the north’s major highways to four lanes and add more passing lanes. Poirier says Highways 17 and 69 have been expanded to four lanes by the north’s major cities like Sudbury, North Bay and Thunder Bay. He says it’s time the rest of both Trans Canada routes saw four lanes. Poirier, who is a long-distance truck driver from New Liskeard, also says the Ministry of Transportation made a mistake by privatizing highway maintenance and should take back control.
