Richey, a North Bay native, went missing in late November in the Village section of Toronto. Four days after her disappearance, Richey’s own mother discovered her body at the bottom of a stairwell at a building under construction at Church and Dundonald Streets. Richey’s body was near where she had last been seen on video cameras in the area. Toronto Police handling of the case had been called into question by the Richey family and residents of the Village. Richey’s death was at first determined to be a case of “misadventure,” but was eventually ruled as a homicide after a post-mortem examination. Police later released grainy images of a man they deem to be a person of interest in Richey’s murder.
