No charges against police in man versus toilet incident

The investigation has been terminated into an injury sustained by a 27-year-old man who flung himself into a steel toilet in a jail cell while in police custody.

On January 17, North Bay Police Service officers arrested the man for various offences and lodged him in a cell. A couple of hours later, the man stood on the bunk in his cell and intentionally fell head first into the steel toilet near the bunk. The man was transported to the hospital where he was treated for a laceration.

Special Investigations Unit Director Tony Loparco says that the injury was self-inflicted and not deemed serious in nature according to the medical records.
