Highway 11 stop for speeding leads to impaired charges

A 21-year-old man has been charged with several offences and has been issued a 90-day automatic licence suspension and the vehicle he was driving has been impounded for one week.

Wednesday at 8:47pm, officers from the Powassan Detachment of the OPP stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 11 in the Municipality of Powassan.  After speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests. The tests revealed that he had over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

As a result of the police investigation, the driver from Oro-Medonte Township, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol
  • Driving with More Than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood
  • Speeding
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available

He has been released on a promise to appear and a summons and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, on March 6.
