Five flee police after stolen vehicle rolls onto roof

On Sunday, at approximately 2:30pm, officers from the Powassan Detachment of the OPP responded to a traffic complaint about a vehicle travelling in an erratic and dangerous manner on Highway 11 in Powassan.

Officers located the vehicle and found it to be travelling at almost twice the posted speed limit of 100 km/h. The driver failed to stop for officers. The vehicle was located a short time later on its roof on Highway 17 and witnesses advised that the five occupants of the vehicle had fled.

Officers at the scene located two of the occupants quickly and with the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit were able to locate the three other occupants of the vehicle.

Officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Toronto earlier in the day.

Three of the accused have been held for bail, one released on a recognizance of bail, and one on an undertaking given by a Justice.
