A significant donation from the Deacon family to Canadore’s the Village

Canadore College celebrated a $200,000 donation to The Village’s capital campaign.

The Village’s eventual reception area will be named the Deacon Family Meeting Place. Mark and Steve Deacon, their two sons, and Mark’s mother Annette Deacon were on hand Thursday at Canadore College to present a cheque for $200,000 to the capital campaign for the Village.

Hear Mark Deacon talking about the family’s donation:

The Deacons see this as a community project that is so unique and transformative that it will only come around once in a lifetime. The family says it is honoured to be associated with such a project and to be able to offer a bit of help to ensure its success. The Deacons hope their donation inspires others who can, to contribute.

Canadore College president and CEO George Burton acknowledged the Deacon Family for their philanthropy and support.

The facility’s construction and technology are valued at $20 million in total. Earlier this month, Canadore also received a $1 million dollar donation from private donors to supplement the $5.63 million from the federal government and $800,000 from the province. The overall fundraising campaign goal is $5 million from non-government sources.
