Conflict of interest registry for Council coming soon

A registry of conflicts of interest declared by members City Council will be kept as part of an amendment to Bill 68.

Bill 68 seeks to modernize municipal legislation and North Bay City Council received and referred the report to the general government committee at last night’s meeting.

The amendment comes into effect March 1, 2019.

Previously, a conflict of interest form had to be completed by a member of Council and submitted to the City Clerk. Under the amendment, the member must read the declaration of conflict of interest out loud.

The written declaration of conflict of interest must be available to the public on the City’s website or in the office of the City Clerk. The entire registry will be available on the website.
