Splish, splash, where are you building that pad?

Former MP and City Councillor Jay Aspin will make a presentation regarding the location of the proposed splash pad at tonight’s regular meeting of Council.

Aspin has led a splinter group from the Downtown Waterfront Advisory Committee that believes the splash pad should be built at Marathon Beach. Aspin’s group has been overruled on the eventual location of the splash pad with the advisory committee recommending the site behind the Discovery North Bay Museum favoured by the majority of the committee.

The report from City staff recommends that Council endorses the recommendation to build the splash pad behind the museum.

The project is estimated to cost $650,000 with a large portion coming from two local service clubs. The North Bay Rotary and Nipissing Rotary Clubs, have raised $250,000 toward the construction and are promising to raise more funds, in addition to pursuing government funding to make the project they have been working on since 2007 a reality.
