Crystal meth appearing in more than viral videos in North Bay

Deputy Police Chief Scott Tod says that crystal meth (or shards) is becoming more prevalent in our community.

Tod says observations from members of the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team indicate that officers are coming into contact more frequently with people using the inexpensive street drug.

The Deputy points out that crystal meth has also been in the local news recently, as the drug is present in a viral video that police have debunked, showing a man making a drug purchase and then jumping into the backseat of an NBPS cruiser.

Tod says that crystal meth is a cheaper option than cocaine, heroin or Fentanyl, making its appeal widespread across demographics. He adds that crystal meth addiction has been a problem in southern Ontario as well as the Bruce Peninsula.

The Response Team is typically called when there is a rapid behaviour change in an individual. These sudden changes can be the result of a mental health crisis, drug use, or both. Tod says it is in these scenarios that the increased [suspected or confirmed] crystal meth use is being noticed.
