Callander man pleads guilty to animal cruelty charges and penalty includes 10-year ban on animal ownership

A Callander man has been hit with a 10-year ban on owning animals following convictions on two animal cruelty charges.

Fifty-one-year-old Patrick Adduono was convicted for allowing an animal to be in distress and for failing to give it adequate and appropriate medical attention.

Adduono owned a 17-year-old Husky-Shepherd he had tied to a dog house last year in August.

An SPCA officer with the North Bay and District Humane Society saw the dog which was emaciated and had mobility issues.

In addition, the dog had open and bleeding wounds, discharge was coming from its eyes and its water bowl was covered with feces.

When it was removed and taken to a local veterinarian, the animal specialist found it was anemic, dehydrated, infested with fleas and confirmed its emaciated condition.

When the dog failed to respond to treatment, it was humanely put down.

In addition to the prohibition ban, Adduono was also given a two month probationary sentence.

However the animal ban doesn’t apply to two dogs he currently owns but he has to prove to the SPCA that he is looking after them with annual visits to the vet.
