Rota expects the north and Nipissing-Timiskaming to benefit from economic growth strategy

The federal government has released its economic growth strategy for Northern Ontario and the MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming sees a lot of good coming from the document.

Anthony Rota says the strategy builds on a region’s strengths to create more middle-class jobs and opportunities.

He says although much of the north is home to mining and forestry companies, how the strategy is pursued will vary.

Rota says one of the keys is innovation.

He says sometimes a company has something very new on the go and all that’s needed to make it a reality is a helping hand.

“If they have something they’re doing now and think they can tweak or change it completely, they can apply for help to make it work better,” Rota said.

In North Bay, Rota believes one of the beneficiaries will be the mining supply companies as they try to remain competitive and supply the industry with the equipment it needs when extracting ore.

Under the strategy companies would apply to an agency like FedNor to move their idea or project forward.
