Nipissing First Nation to host Chiefs of Ontario conference

They’ll be in the community for the Chiefs of Ontario conference, a three to four day event that will see upwards of 300 delegates.

The First Nation says with that many people coming to the area, the region will receive an economic shot in the arm.

It’s estimated that 200 to 300 hotel rooms in Sturgeon Falls and North Bay will be booked for the event.

In terms of budget, the Chiefs of Ontario has set aside $30,000 but that’s to cover on site needs like tables, chairs, possibly AV equipment rentals, catering and local vehicle rentals.

In addition, NFN would cover cost overruns.

The $30,000 budget doesn’t take into account and doesn’t cover transportation costs the Ontario Chiefs will use to get to their destination, accommodations or their meals outside the conference area.

Nipssing First Nation is now working with staff at the Chiefs of Ontario to plan for the conference.

Nipissing is hosting the conference as the result of winning a bidding process.
