Another early morning stunt driver charged

The highway in Powassan continues to see its share of dangerous stunt driving.

Less than one month ago, Staff Sergeant Chris Summersby, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP Detachment noted a sharp increase in stunt driving, especially among younger drivers and occurring after the sun had set. Officers had charged 13 drivers to that point in 2018 with speeding by 50 km/h or more.

Saturday at 2:24am, the OPP was on general patrol on Highway 11 in Powassan.  Officers observed a vehicle travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped for stunt driving.

The driver, a 29-year-old resident of Oro-Medonte, Ontario, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt – Speeding by 50 or More km/hr and released on a Part III Summons to attend Provincial Offences Court on May 25 in North Bay. The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused’s driver’s licence was also suspended for seven days.
