North Bay hospital workers part of province-wide noon rally today

The North Bay Regional Health Centre could be very noisy at noon time today.

That’s because the employees are part of a province-wide event where workers are protesting slow contract talks.

Although CUPE and hospital management are resuming contract talks this weekend, the session will be the first one since talks broke off last September.

CUPE says it wants a fair contract for the workers with no concessions.

It says recently, the hospitals’ lab workers got a wage increase and it wants similar increases for the clerical, nurses and support staff that the union represents.

The North Bay rally is planned by the hospital entrance.

Other hospitals in the northeast that have confirmed they are part of the noon rallies include Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Timiskaming.
