Mother and daughter from Sturgeon Falls convicted on animal cruelty charges

A court has convicted two Sturgeon Falls women on animal cruelty charges after they had two cats and two Labrador-Retriever four month old pups removed from their care.

Forty-eight-year-old Tracy McLeod and her daughter, 29-year-old Alysa Ethier ignored an order from the North Bay and District Humane Society to look after their pets.

The mother and daughter were paid a visit last year in September and given the care order and when an official returned the next month, the society learned the order was ignored.

At that point the pets were removed.

During the trial, the court was told the living conditions of the animals were unsanitary including exposing the cats and dogs to high levels of ammonia.

Additionally, the owners couldn’t show that they were feeding their pets or providing them with water.

Once a vet treated the animals, they were adopted by other families.

The court has prohibited both women from owning animals for 10 years plus they’re subject to unannounced visits by the SPCA.
