Indigenous Friendship Centre receives grant to retrofit North Bay building

The Indigenous Friendship Centre in North Bay will be able to carry out some much needed retrofits thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

OTF is giving the centre $43,900 to repair the building it acquired next to the main facility.

The work includes improving the foundation, installing an HVAC system and removing mould.

Katherine Sarazin, the President of the Indigenous Friendship Centre, says the facility can use the money to carry out the much-needed improvements.

The money will be allocated over a five month period.

The building was acquired last year in April and houses six workers.

Two of those employees look after more than 300 homeless people in the community.

Sarazin says most of the homeless are Indigenous.

In addition, the acquired site will soon accommodate two more people; a Youth Life Promotions worker and Youth in Transition worker.
