Rotarians rebuilding Camp Tillicum so kids can make memories of their own

Kids Need This Camp – This Camp Needs You!

That’s the simple message carrying forward the initiative to rebuild a treasured facility in our area such as Camp Tillicum.

The president of the camp’s board, Bob Cunningham, says that decades of use by thousands of campers have raised the need for a renewal project at the site of the camp in Callander on Lake Nipissing’s south shore.

The volunteer Rotarians working to rebuild Camp Tillicum, have launched the next phase of fundraising for the camp’s renewal project, based on a new website, new videos, and a refined theme.

Cunningham says that although Redpath will be generously investing in the main facility, the entire camp needs an overhaul. He says this carries a financial infusion of $1.5 million. Renovations to the dining hall, counsellor and nurse’s cabins, as well as updated play and sports areas are needed.

With $700,000 of funding already announced, Cunningham says the board knew they needed to step up the effort to be able to break ground as soon as possible.

Moving forward, a new website will create an online presence, carry an updated message, and a streamlined way to donate online.

The message conveyed in a series of four short videos available at the website is that Camp Tillicum has made a difference in the lives of thousands of children, and how donations will ensure a great future for kids to attend the camp for generations to come says Steve Wright, president-elect of the Rotary Club of North Bay.

Camp Tillicum’s facilities have been maintained by Rotarians for over six decades, while the YMCA is their partner for running the seasonal programming every year.
