Director’s Report on reducing number of high schools in North Bay to remain confidential for now

The Education Director of the Near North District School Board has completed her report on what it takes to go from three high schools to two in North Bay.

But board chair Dave Thompson says the report can’t become public because it has budget numbers that must remain confidential for now.

Thompson says the numbers relate to future Requests for Proposals and that’s not the kind of information anyone releases beforehand.

“You don’t tell potential bidders what your budget is,” Thompson said.

“It’s unheard of in any business.  You just don’t release that kind of information.”

Thompson says the education director’s report is a living document and will be changing constantly.

He says one of those changes is the number of students the board will eventually end up with at the high schools.

“We don’t have crystal ball and we won’t know the actual student enrolment until October 31st,” Thompson said.

He adds another factor is the outcome of the June 7th provincial election and what position the party that’s elected as Ontario’s next government takes on school consolidations, mergers and closures.

However Thompson says non-sensitive parts of the report will be posted on the board’s website in the near future.
