Nipissing candidate Henri Giroux outlines what an NDP government would do

Adding more long-term care beds and a moratorium on school closures are two initiatives an NDP government would implement.

That’s according to Nipissing NDP candidate Henri Giroux.

Giroux says a new Democratic government would create 32,000 nursing beds in the short term and increase that number to 45,000 over a ten-year period.

He says people need the beds now and that need will only grow with time.

“We having an aging population plus the baby boomers are starting to retire,” said Giroux.

“These beds are needed very badly.”

Giroux also says the NDP are commitment to putting a moratorium on future school closures that are facing declining enrolment.

He says in addition to putting new funding into the Ministry of Health, the NDP would add services to schools that are losing their student population.

“There are always ways of using the schools you have now instead of just closing them down, selling the building and then someone builds something else there,” said Giroux.

He says the buildings could serve as agency hubs to provide things like recreation for children.
