Doctors flock to Sudbury

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is a big reason why Sudbury has been able to attract more doctors over the past 13 years. During that time frame 189 physicians have hung their shingle in the city while 89 moved to another community or retired. About one third of the new doctors are graduates of the medical school. However the school isn’t the only reason why more doctors are ending up in Sudbury. The Sudbury hospital has become an academic health sciences centre and the city routinely carries out aggressive recruitment drives. This year’s recruitment drive focuses on 15 disciplines including E-R medicine, cardiology and geriatrics.
