Brazen early evening sexual assault under investigation

The North Bay Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a sexual assault.

Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Front Street in North Bay shortly after 7:00pm last evening after receiving a call from a woman who reports she had been grabbed by her arm by an older demanding sex. The female victim had been sitting in her front yard when the man, unknown to her, grabbed her, causing a minor struggle. According to the police, the victim says she yelled out and was able to pull away from the accused. The male fled on foot from First Avenue West, heading towards the Douglas Street and McLeod Street areas.

An assault with a sexual connotation (the victim is grabbed by her arm while the accused is demanding sex) is classified as a sexual assault, according to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The victim was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as:

  • a 60- to 70-year-old man
  • being of medium height
  • having short, possibly balding grey hair
  • blue eyes

The man was believed to be wearing;

  • a navy blue baseball cap
  • a white t-shirt
  • a brown necklace
  • beige cargo shorts just above the knee

The investigation continues.
