Police are warning residents about two separate online frauds taking place in the city. The first one has to do with apartments being advertised on kijiji. The address is usually a well known apartment building but then people who inquire are told the owner is out of the country. They are asked to send first and last month’s rent and that the keys would be mailed… of course, they’d never arrvive.
Meanwhile, police say there’s a fake Microsoft email that looks very official and outlines they’ve found a problem with your computer. They ask for credit card payment in order for the issue to be fixed. They proceed to max out the credit card and gain access to your accounts.
The North Bay Police are encouraging the public not to respond to any email requests for personal information.
