Swimming bandit leads police on naval pursuit

Last weekend, OPP officers used various seaworthy vessels in arresting a suspected impaired driver on a Sea-Doo on Talon Lake in Bonfield.

Saturday, officers from the North Bay and Mattawa Detachments of the OPP responded to a complaint. Officers attended the area and began to conduct an investigation. While officers were questioning the suspect on shore, he fled by jumping into Lake Talon and swimming away.

Officers located the male on another shore where he fled again by swimming away from officers. Officers borrowed a paddleboat and then a boat and motor in an attempt to follow and locate the suspect.

Additional officers and a canine officer were shuttled to a small island where they believed the suspect to be hiding. The canine officer was able to locate the subject and he was arrested.
