Rotaract nets record haul for PADDLE program

The 10th Up the Creek Without a PADDLE event, organized by the Rotaract Club of North Bay – Nipissing with support from the North Bay Canoe Club, has raised a total of $40,315 for a record-breaking total.

The event is the first the Rotaract Club of North Bay – Nipissing ever ran and is their only event with the same yearly beneficiary. Friday’s event brings the total to over $160,000 raised for North Bay’s PADDLE Program.

Rotaract President Valerie Edmunds explains that participants are put into dragon boats, supplied by the Canoe Club of North Bay, and sent out onto Trout Lake as they raise funds to “buy” their paddle back to shore. Edmunds adds, “All funds raised go directly to support the PADDLE Program in North Bay. We are proud to have set a new record this year!”

PADDLE is looking for a new location to house their program. One that meets the needs of the program and their 35 participants. This includes 3,000-3,500 square feet of space, onsite parking that is accessible and a dedicated accessible washroom for the program.

PADDLE is a learning centre that provides adults with special needs opportunities and choices in learning experiences and community involvement. The PADDLE Program is designed to be flexible, adaptive, inclusive, community-based, interactive and responsive to individual needs, choices, interest and abilities.
