Rota expects high-tech sector to grow with FedNor help

Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota says FedNor is helping the high-tech industry grow in Northern Ontario.

He says a loan of $216,000 of North Bay-based MetricAid is a prime example of this.

The loan helps the company hire six workers to work on software for the healthcare scheduling challenges in the United Kingdom.

Rota says high-tech jobs start with small numbers of workers, but when companies are ready to expand that’s where FedNor can step in.

“You have to create the hub of people,” Rota said after announcing the MetricAid funding.

“And when you do that in the technology industry, it starts growing.  You start to attract people from Southern Ontario as well as elsewhere in the country”

MetricAid was able to repatriate its workers who were born in the North Bay area but moved south back to the community.

Rota says as the high tech sector continues to grow one goal will be to encourage people who are born in Southern Ontario to consider moving to Northern Ontario.
