West Nipissing Police Board names interim Police Chief

The West Nipissing Police Services Board has appointed from within to fill the Chief’s position.

Inspector Ray St. Pierre is the interim Chief. The board offered St. Pierre the job which he accepted. St. Pierre replaces outgoing Chief Chuck Seguin whose last day on the job is next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the legal battles continue over adopting the OPP as West Nipissing’s police force.

The West Nipissing Police Services Board will make its case on July 12,  in Divisional Court on why the effort to switch to the OPP should die. The board has maintained council’s decision to replace the local police is not in the best interests of the community and launched a legal challenge.

Because of this, the Ontario Civilian Police Commission is holding off on moving forward to disband the municipal police. The board is prepared for a lengthy fight saying it has enough money to keep fighting the switch. The board says it’s confident the July 12 appearance will result in a review of the process that went into the decision to switch to the OPP.
