Ban on open burning in North Bay and surrounding area

Due to current weather conditions, North Bay Fire & Emergency Services has put an immediate ban on all open burning for the City of North Bay. This includes all those who are current permit holders.

Similar bans are now in place in West Nipissing (complete fire ban) and Powassan (total fire ban, no open air burning under a permit, no fireworks and no campfires). No open air burning or fireworks in East Ferris, Chisholm, Nipissing, Callander, Mattawa, Burks Falls, Sundridge, Magnetawan, Kearney and Perry.

In Temagami, as well as in South River and Machar, all fire permits are cancelled and fireworks are not permitted. Small campfires are permitted at this time but should be handled with extreme care.

The area has experienced warmer than average temperature with little rainfall over the past few weeks. The warm and dry conditions are expected to continue with no significant rainfall predicted for the next couple of weeks. The ban will include all open burning and fireworks.

North Bay Fire & Emergency Services will strictly enforce the ban on open burning. This restriction will remain in effect until further notice.

The public is reminded that burning brush or grass for clean up around your homes, can be dangerous. Just one careless moment can lead to a wildfire and threaten people, houses and the community.
