Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says you are at your most vulnerable when you are asleep and properly located and properly maintained smoke alarms can alert you to danger when you are at your most vulnerable.
At 3:30 this morning, fire crews from all three stations reported to a confirmed structure fire at 215 Greenwood Avenue. Residents had been alerted to the danger by properly maintained smoke alarms and were able to safely evacuate the home and call 911.
Fire crews arrived on scene and faced significant smoke and fire emanating from the rear of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, thus limiting the significant damage that had already occurred. Fire Prevention personnel are investigating the fire for the cause, but it is not considered suspicious. Early estimates peg the damage at approximately $100,000.
