Union group sounds alarm bell over future of healthcare under Tory government

A health-related labour group is warning of tough times ahead for hospitals including the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

The Ontario Council of Hospital Unions says election promises by Premier Doug Ford will result in hospital cutbacks including the one in North Bay.

OCHU says Ford’s drive to balance the budget, implementing a four percent cut in spending and another $7 billion in tax cuts means less money for hospitals including the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

The union is releasing a study in North Bay Wednesday warning about what the cutbacks mean but also how to avoid them.

OCHU says the North Bay hospital has gone through years of underfunding and has faced overcapacity.

It says without more money the North Bay hospital will have a difficult time maintaining quality healthcare.

The union unveils its study at the Royal Canadian Legion branch on First Avenue.
