MNRF says ‘move your drones and boats’

After receiving reports from the OPP of motorists slowing down and abandoning cars to take photos of smoke and fire near Temagami, comes another set of commonsense warnings directly from the MNRF.

The Ministry says boats are still not clearing the path for water bombers. The planes will not scoop water if a potential safety risk is posed to the watercraft. The MNRF’s Shayne McCool says for safety reasons, please move to shore when the water bombers are nearby.

Also, drones are not permitted anywhere within a 9-kilometre circumference of a fire, says McCool.

Flying a drone near or above fire areas is illegal, and can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening to pilots, firefighters and other emergency workers who are battling the fires.
