Dry air and increased fire activity could follow cold front

Hundreds of firefighters are making headway on dozens of forest fires burning across Northeastern Ontario.

As of Sunday night, the number of fires stood at 53 with 22 of them out of control.

That’s an improvement over last week when more than 70 wildfires were burning in the northeast.

One of the more stubborn fires is North Bay 62 which is 25-hundred hectares in size and still not under control.

The fire is one of two significant fires in the River Valley cluster, with the other being North Bay 42 which crews are still trying to contain.

The River Valley clusters remains a priority area.

Crews are ready to get back at it after the cold front passes as dry air will once again make its way across the Northeast causing the fire hazard to intensify.
