Evacuation alert lifted for Temagami area residents

There’s good news for 20 Temgami area households.

The evacuation alert they faced after a forest fire forced them from their homes has been lifted.

The alert is gone as a result of crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry getting North Bay 69 under control.

The fire’s proximity forced 20 homeowners from their homes a week ago Sunday.

They were allowed back several days ago but were told to remain on alert in case they would have to leave again.

With North Bay 69 under control, crews are now checking for hot spots.

Firefighters, meanwhile continue to fight two fires in the River Valley cluster.

That includes the massive 2,500 hectare North Bay 62.

North Bay 62 and North Bay 42, which is 350 hectares large, remain out of control but firefighters are making progress.

Just before Wednesday at midnight, the forest fire activity in the northeast stood at 66 as a result of 17 new starts earlier in the day.
