Team Jacobs in North Bay

Northern Credit Union will again have the Team Jacobs curling champions in North Bay today.

Brothers E.J. and Ryan Harnden will be meeting with the public at the NCU North Bay branch signing autographs, having pictures taken with fans and talking curling from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

The appearance is a two-year partnership NCU has with the Jacobs team where, over the summer, it visits communities that have credit union branches.

Tony Dunham, who is NCU’s Senior Vice President of Strategy, Innovation and Operations, says the entire team can’t be in North Bay because with so many communities to cover over a 20-day span, it’s not possible to make appearances in all the cities and towns given the time frame.

Dunham says skip Brad Jacobs is covering off the northwest and points west while the Harndens are concentrating on the more central locations.

In addition to the curling, Dunham says the team members also promote NCU and this year the theme is digital where members of the public are encouraged to become more aware of the technological devices out there.

Signing autographs and having pictures taken with curling fans are a couple of things Team Jacobs does while on the Northern Credit Union tour.

Dunham says if last year is any indication of the turnout, people want to show up early.

He says it was very busy and the players signed about 100 autographs.

“People are meeting Olympic champions,” Dunham said.

“It’s something that’s encouraging.  It’s a chance to meet and talk to people, shake their hands and realize these are real people.”

Dunham says this is the second year of the two-year partnership NCU has with Team Jacobs.

But he adds the process to extend the partnership another two years is underway.

There is no charge for having your picture taken with the Harndens or getting their autographs.
