Chamber hosting candidate events in lead-up to municipal election

Does your candidate of choice maintain eye contact and have a firm handshake?

Want to get to know your candidate a bit better before the election?

Look them in the eyes and ask not what the municipality can do for them, but rather what they can do for the municipality?

Here is your chance. The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the upcoming municipal elections in the region.

For the City of North Bay, mayoral and council candidates are invited to participate in a Meet & Greet evening to allow voters the opportunity to speak one-on-one with council hopefuls. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at the Grande Event Centre from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Additionally, mayoral candidates are invited to a two-hour live debate on Thursday, October 4, to be broadcast on YourTV channels 12 & 700. The debate will be moderated by Cogeco News anchor Greg Estabrooks.

Many of the mayoral candidates in the region have been acclaimed, however, the townships of Bonfield, Calvin, and Papineau-Cameron have mayoral races. The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce is organizing mayoral debates in those areas as well. Dates and locations to be announced soon.

As for other council candidates in the region, the Chamber will be asking candidates to submit profiles and platforms that will be published online for voters to view. The Chamber is surveying the membership on potential questions, priorities and issues that they feel their council hopefuls and/or those acclaimed, need to be aware of in each area.

Voting day is Monday, October 22. Unsure if you are on the voters list in your region? Click here for more information.
