Friday is International Overdose Awareness Day in North Bay

To remember those lost, community groups are holding an event on Friday to mark International Overdose Awareness Day in North Bay.

The goal of the event is to raise overdose awareness and reduce the stigma of drug-related death by realizing that overdose can affect anyone.

Jointly organized by the AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area, Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and the North Bay Drug Strategy, the event will include a gathering at Leger Square beside North Bay City Hall from 1:00pm – 3:30pm.

Mayor Al McDonald will read the official proclamation.

Organizers hope the gathering offers families and friends a safe space to acknowledge their grief and spread the message that the tragedy of overdose death is preventable.

To that end, a garden of remembrance will be unveiled. Everyone is invited to attend, share, remember and act.

Free Naloxone overdose kits and training will be available as well as a range of free harm reduction supplies, swag, snacks and prize draws.
