The man who died in a hiking incident north of North Bay has been identified as 28-year-old Michael Gauthier of North Bay.
The OPP say Gauthier fell down a ravine near Highway 63 in Jocko Township over the long weekend.
Because the death involves the police, the Special Investigations Unit is looking into the case.
OPP will not be issuing any further statements now that the SIU is involved.
On Thursday the SIU issued a statement saying that the victim was hiking with a friend when he fell.
The friend called 9 1 1 and the North Bay OPP detachment was first to respond.
The officer applied first aid, and gave way to ambulance and fire personnel when they arrived on the scene.
However Gauthier died at the scene.
The SIU investigates cases where police are involved and a person dies or is injured.
