Shovels in the ground for new meat processing plant in North Bay

A partnership between a Ukrainian processing company and local meat retailer could create upwards of 50 jobs in the community.

Dignitaries gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony for Canada Meat Group Inc.’s new processing facility at the Airport Industrial Business Park, Friday.

“We are delighted to announce the establishment of our Canadian meat processing facility in North Bay,” says Oleksandr Zahrebelnyi, President of Canada Meat Group Inc. “North Bay created a very compelling case for establishing a facility here and the local team has been extremely supportive. We are keen to build additional partnerships in the community and grow our business as we expand operations to Canada.”

Operating a similar meat processing plant, along with an abattoir and full-fledged cattle operation in Kiev, Ukraine, Oleksandr and his colleagues are excited about expanding their international footprint to Canada.

In North Bay, Canada Meat Group Inc. will operate a meat processing plant and cold storage facility with the goal of increasing availability and sales of high-quality meat, Kosher meat products, and Halal meat products in Ontario, across Canada and globally through exportation to countries in the Middle East and Asia. It is anticipated that the plant will grow to employ approximately 40 people, with another 12-15 positions being created in a partnership with North Bay’s Bavarian Meats. The plant is expected to open in early August 2019.

“On behalf of North Bay City Council, I am very pleased to welcome Canada Meat Group Inc. to the community. We recognize the significant investment made by Oleksandr and his team and we look forward to the construction of their new facility in the Airport Industrial Business Park,” said Mayor Al McDonald.

Invest North Bay Development Corporation President George Burton conveys “It has been a pleasure getting to know Canada Meat Group Inc. over the course of several visits. Oleksandr and his team already feel like part of our community and we wish them every success as they expand their operations to Canada and settle in North Bay.”
