Ball season is winding down but there are still some diehards who play until the temperature really drops.
One area to avoid if organizing pick-up game or practice is the Optimist Fields located next to Pete Palangio Arena.
The Kelly and Handley diamonds will be getting some tender loving care, according to the City’s Parks Department.
Maintenance work is underway and improvements to several areas of the field are being completed until September 28th.
The 2018 Parks Capital Plan has made provisions for:
- Installation of irrigation systems on both fields
- Re-grading of infield and warning tracks to improve drainage
- Re-grading of surrounding areas to allow for drainage off of the field
- Installation of cement pads for bleachers
- Landscaping and sod around spectator area
- Levelling of dugouts and players benches
