Three local charities to benefit from curling event

A late, distinguished community leader will have a charity curling tournament named in his honour.

Event co-chairs Brad Minogue and Scott Clark announced the inaugural Peter Minogue Rocks and Hearts curling tournament earlier today.

The tournament is named after Minogue, who was dedicated to North Bay, its businesses and economic well-being, and most importantly, its people. Minogue was a multi-talented athlete and was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. In curling, he skipped a number of winning teams, nearly making it to the Brier on more than one occasion.

The sporting event will equally benefit three local non-profits focused on the health and wellness of the community, the Canadore College Foundation, Military Family Resource Centre and North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation. Funds raised will go to support of student scholarships, military family support and expanded hospital services, new programs, and to bring leading-edge medical technology and treatment.

The fundraising tournament, led by the Canadore Foundation, will take place at the North Bay Granite Club January 18 – 20. The event is primarily invitational, but additional team registrations are available.
