Power should be restored today for hundreds of area residents

In the aftermath of Friday’s wind storm, Hydro One reports 869 customers in Nipissing region still without power as of Sunday evening.

Many of the 1,970 Hydro One customers in the North region without power as of last evening reside along the Highway 17 corridor east of North Bay toward Ottawa.

Crews are working to restore power in Nipissing and across the affected areas. Some local Hydro One customers may have to wait until 6:00pm today for their service to resume, according to the utility.

Hydro One says a “high wind event with winds peaking between 70-100 km/h,” in addition to “isolated thunderstorms blew west to east across most of Ontario,” from mid-morning Friday and continued overnight. A tornado has also caused significant damage in the Ottawa area.

Hydro One says all available crews are responding to outages as quickly and safely as possible with additional crews being mobilized to the hardest hit areas.
