The eight Zone 1 Near North District School Board trustee candidates debated in front of a crowd of 50 last night.
The common theme from the questioners at the Candidates’ Forum hosted by Ready or Not 2018 and the Ontario Alliance Against School Closures was a desire for clarity and openness.
The event was hosted at the Candore College Conference Centre and moderated by Moose FM’s Mike Monaghan.
Parents, teachers, and retired teachers expressed they are looking for answers and expressing hopes that the next board will be more transparent than the last.
Debate topics addressed by the candidates included partnerships with other local school boards, the bus consortium, revenue from international students, and the Baccalaureate program.
Election day is Monday, October 22. You must be listed as an elector for the NNDSB to cast a vote. Local candidates are seeking one of four trustee seats of eight total elected and will represent Zone 1 (including North Bay and West Nipissing) on the Near North District School Board.
